PlayCase 2.0 Launch, Timeline and Roadmap

February 20, 2025

It’s been 9 months since I launched the PlayCase. I’ve learned a lot since then – how to properly engineer parts that fit together, which materials are best, how to maximize the quality of the prints, the list goes on. I’ve applied all of that knowledge in a re-design of the PlayCase and am proud to say that I am ready to re-launch as the PlayCase prototype 2.0 – more features, better designs & more!

I’ve put together a timeline and roadmap for what I hope PlayCase can become – a full fledged business with a mission to create the best products for iOS emulation and beyond.

PlayCase 2.0

2.0 Prototype Launch: Product Updates

As a part of trying to make PlayCase to as many people as possible, I’ve restructured the way PlayCase is priced and sold.

At launch, PlayCase 2.0 will only be one available color: translucent white. The decision to limit the scope of available colors for PlayCases for now is for a few important reasons:

  1. Costs. Managing multiple color options significantly increased production costs.
  2. Logistics. At the peak of PlayCase 1.0 production, I ran seven printers—each dedicated to different parts. Constantly switching colors to fulfill orders was a logistical nightmare. Now, I’ve replaced those seven with four A1 Minis, three of which are equipped with AMS, making production far more efficient.
  3. Future Proofing. When PlayCase transitions into a fully manufactured product, color options will be limited. Keeping colors simple now prevents customers from being caught off guard later.
  4. Cool factor. Translucent white isn’t just one color—it’s all colors at once. Light naturally bleeds through the faceplate when mounted, making it adaptable to different lighting conditions. Plus, with some future updates to the unofficial deltskin editor, translucent white opens new creative possibilities for community-made skins.
  5. One of the biggest improvements in PlayCase 2.0 comes from utilizing official iPhone USDZ files (and learning what the inflate modifier does in Cinema 4D). These dimensionally accurate models have allowed me to:
    • Improve the case fit – No more dips around the volume and power buttons. Now, the PlayCase feels more like a traditional phone case.
    • Enhance button functionality – The new floating button system allows for a natural feel when using your phone.
    • Increase customization – Floating phone button parts can now be any color! The purchasing process has been updated to let you preview all button color options before buying.e providing the functionality necessary to use your phone naturally.
      • Thats where the customization comes in! These floating phone button parts can be any color. I’ve updated the purchasing process to allow you to preview all of the button color options!

2.0 Prototype Launch: Pricing Updates

While pricing remains relatively the same I’ve moved the goal-post for barrier-to-entry. Pricing will now be as follows:

I know that’s not cheap, and I completely get it. But in order to take PlayCase to the next level, I need to build a sustainable business that allows me to continue improving and expanding the product line. Your support helps make that happen!

3D Printed Parts: Durability & Warranty

3D printed products aren’t indestructible, and I know that. To help combat wear and tear, every PlayCase now comes with a 6-month piece replacement warranty, starting from your delivery date. If something breaks due to normal use, I’ll replace it for free—no questions asked.

Let’s Do This!

Starting today, the PlayCase 2.0 Prototype is available for:

  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max

I’ll be rolling out support for two new iPhone models each week. Want to know when your model is available? Sign up for the newsletter or join the Discord for the most up-to-date information about all things PlayCase!

Final Thoughts

This is just the beginning of PlayCase’s evolution. With a refined design, better customization, and a more efficient production process, I’m excited to take things to the next level.

Thank you for your support — let’s keep building something amazing together!
